Personal Communication

Do NOT include a “personal communication” in a list of references.  Should be cited within the text:

Examples: 

  • According to a letter from G.L. Engle, in August 2020 …

  • Similar findings have been noted by G.L. Engle, PharmD (email, August 15, 2020).

  • According to the manufacturer (H. R. Smith, PhD, Pharma International, written communication, May 1, 2015), the drug became available in Japan in January 2014.

Permission should be obtained from the author prior to use and the individuals's highest degree should be provided.
