Lament: Introduction

When Life Is Unfair: Biblical Lament as a Response to Grief, Loss and Discontent of All Kinds

Every one has lost something...and not all of us have witnessed a healthy process of lament.

The practice of lament helps us negotiate the differences between how we thought life was supposed to go and our reality. Biblical lament provides a structure for processing the emotions evoked when life is unfair, God seems far away or silent, when you feel threatened, or are fearful of a loss. Even though lament is not always practiced in churches today, there are many examples of lament that can be found in the Bible because lament is a faithful way to worship God.
