This guide includes resources to prepare Third Year Writing students for their research assignment.

Be Ready for Class!

Before class, please complete the following:

1. Watch the "Joining the (Scholarly) Conversation" video (1 minute)

2. Complete the "Subject Databases Tutorial" (7 minutes)

3. Watch the "Tracking Citations" Video (2.5 minutes)

4. "Searching Refresher" (Optional)

After completing this class, students will be able to:

  1. Select and use subject databases in order to effectively access discipline-specific information.
  2. Understand the need for discipline-specific attribution to lend credibility to my work, facilitate the scholarly conversation, and extend knowledge in the field.
  3. Trace citations in order to follow the conversation, identify additional sources, and reveal changes in perspective over time.
